History
La Vernia’s roots stretch back to the early 1800s, when one of the first land grants in the region was awarded along Cibolo Creek. The town was settled around 1850 and established a post office in 1853—originally named Post Oak before becoming La Vernia in 1859. German and Polish immigration fueled early growth, and the arrival of the San Antonio and Gulf Railroad in 1893 helped transform the community into a thriving agricultural hub. La Vernia was incorporated in 1966.
