History
Poth traces its origins to 1886, when it was established as a railway switch on the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad—originally called Marcelina. The town was renamed in 1901 for Arnold H. Poth, who established a cotton gin there, and grew steadily as an agricultural center serving the surrounding ranching and farming community. By 1914, Poth had a bank, a lumberyard, a cotton gin, and multiple general stores, reflecting the industrious spirit of its early German and Polish settlers.
